Competition
An important feature of the Irish freestyle scene are the various competitions that take place around the country. The events provide a great opportunity to meet other paddlers and to compete. Some of the competitions are organised as fun events where everyone is encouraged to participate. The more serious events are aimed at those looking to move to the international level. These events are held a few times a year and are normally scheduled to fit in with the international calendar.
At the international level the World Championships are organised every two years with the World Cup taking place in the off years. The Europeans are usually scheduled for the same year as the World Cup while the Euro Cup runs every year. For the most part, it generally works out that there is at least one international event scheduled for each year. The events provide a focus for those training and a chance to pit themselves against the best.
