Kayaking - Northern Ireland
I'm wondering how to get into some river kayaking. I have some experience and am pretty confident and have learnt some skills such as braces, sculling, breaking in/out, ferry gliding/reverse ferry gliding, flat water roll etc. But I don't know were to go from here.
I don't know of any clubs apart from sea paddling ones.
Are there people you can hire to guide you down rivers?
I have my own boat (jackson fun) and I've done a weeks paddling in wales on mostly grade 2 water. I surf at portrush and ballycastle and will go out on flat water in cushendun, cushendall, waterfoot.
What's the next step?
Thanks in Advance
Conor
Where do you live?
THere is a fair few whitewater clubs about. Im sure it wouldnt be too difficult to persuade one of them to bring you out with them, especially if you arent too far from Belfast, since thats where most of the clubs are.
I live in Cushendall, if you know where that is. On the antrim coast about an hour from Belfast. Can you please guide me towards one as all the ones I found seemed to be just sea kayaking. Do any of them have a sizable junior section?
Thanks
Conor
You lucky B****** right between glenarm and glendun! Probably 2 of the nicest runs in the north, but a little nasty for you at your current level.
Your best bet is probably CCKA or BKC both are primarily sea/surf clubs but do have some whitewater paddlers. Most whitewater paddlers in the north dont bother with clubs much.
BKC would have a few juniors. Have you been in touch with the junior slalom team? Even if youre not interested in slalom youll meet plenty of paddlers.

Conor,
If you have a look here on the CANI website which has loads of info on all thing kayaking up North.
