For the first time ever in Ireland Boater-X style competition is coming to the Real South East of Ireland. On 14th-16th November 2008, the first ever Colligan Gorge Games will take place!

The venue for the event will be the challenging Gorge Section of the River Colligan, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

With the absence of a BigBoatBonanza and WetWestWildWeekend this year we hope all individuals, clubs and universities will make their best effort to attend in huge numbers.

The event is joint hosted by 180 Kayak Club, WIT Kayak Club and Shielbaggan OEC.

The competition will take the same format as that of the BBB and W4 with a few surprises thrown in. You can find out more information about the event, location, after party etc. etc. at the event website.

http://www.colligangorgegames.com

There will be loads of prizes, excitement and craic at the after party. Be sure to come along.

Please Note: As it is our first year running such an event, we intend to keep it to one day’s competition. However if there is sufficient interest in the event this may be reviewed.

If you have any questions please read through the event website and then if they remain unanswered speak up on the irishfreestyle.com event topic.

We look forward to welcoming you all to Waterford for a massive event on November 14th-16th

Just to clear up a little bit of confusion. The categories for the Colligan Gorge Games 2008 are as follows....

  • Juniors (paddlers under 18yrs of age on November 14th)
  • Mens & Womens Sport
  • Mens & Womens Expert (you know who you are!)
  • University Teams (Teams of 3)
  • Club Teams (Teams of 3)
  • Please email your entries, with the subject matter Colligan Gorge Games, plus the following details..... to colligangorgegames@gmail.com

    Details

  • Name:
  • Address:
  • Mobile No.:
  • Date of birth:
  • Club/University:
  • *ICU/BCU No.:
  • T-shirt Size:
  • Events

    • Individual Category:
    • Team Category:
    • Team Members
    • 1.
    • 2.
    • 3.

Please state whether you are entering a team event or not. If you haven't got a team but wish to be paired up with others looking for teammates let us know on the email and we will do our best. for the moment there is no seperation between mens and womens in the team events. If the numbers entered require them to be seperated we will do but for the moment thats how it stands, If you are not in a club or university but want to enter a team just submit your team and their names and we will sort it all outlater putting you most likely in the clubs teams race. Please note you should recieve a confirmation email each time a mail is recieved so if you don't get a confirmation mail and you don't do anything about it, then don't be surprised on the day of the event if we dont have you listed as entered.

    thanks

For the team event are there seperate mens and womens categories? Or is there just one category?

    Sinead,

I was wondering the same and then stumbled accross this in the small print,

Ok entries have been flying in all week and we have limited space left the event has been capped at the 100 entries mark and that is looming so anyone thinking of leaving it late to enter may want to get the entries in asap also the closing date for entries is being put back a week to the first of November so we can have our orders and the likes in on time.

Big thanks to all our sponsors the prizes are looking to be top notch. The site will be updated soon with more info about the events for people who have entered.

Their is also a lack of the Dublin paddling community getting involved come on guys its not too far to travel and the drink is cheaper down these parts.

Ok guys with less then one week to go I hope everyone is well into the training as the competition will be tough and the racing good. We had a mini tornado in Waterford yesterday and while on the river it rose very quick so the water is their and with the coming forecast for the week to be a wet one the water will hopefully playball.

Everything is coming together nicely on our side and we hope to have an email with relevant info regarding the comp, party, parking and anything else ye need to know before arriving at the event sent out to all competitors.

We would like everyone traveling to the event to try where possible to car pool as parking is tight.

The Website will be updated during the week again with more info on the event also.

We are happy to announce that we will have the use of a on site built in pool for the demo playboats on show from our sponsors i-canoe, Great outdoors, Total experience, Mdac and Dagger. This will be open to all competitors and supervised by some of our team.

We also have great prizes up for grabs with i-canoe giving 2 exo kayaks up for grabs to the clubs of the winning men's and women's teams not to mention all the other great prizes that the rest of our sponsors are putting out their for you to win. You can check out all our sponsors sites from the contacts page on www.colligangorgegames.com

We would urge everyone to try arrive on site to register as early as possible on the Saturday morning registration will be from 8am until 9:15am and first race following shortly after we have lots of entrants so we will need to get things going as quick as possible to ensure we get through all the events all this info and more will be in the email. Registration will also be open Friday night in the dome bar in Waterford IT from 7 till 10.

We are really looking forward to the coming weekend and we have done a lot of work in the last month bringing the event all together and thanks to everyone who helped out. Well hope everyone is in good form for a good day of racing and a good night of partying.

Don'T forget the freestyle AGM is also on down their and spectators are more then welcome.

Look forward to seeing ye all next weekend.

    Hey Guys,

The event look great and the buildup has been great entertainment. I think the race course looks interesting - will the boatercross be as long the head cam footage suggests?

Best of luck with the final preperations!

    Rosco.
