Lost on Dargle
Hey guys,
Just to add to the list from the dargle. Here is a mail From John Flanagan in relation to his boat which was fished out of Bray harbour and has now been stolen.I finally got speaking with the lovely chappys from Bray Harbour this morning who "rescued" my boat from the Dargle last Thursday week. I think it is official now that they are not giving it back. Bray Garda station have set up a crack team of elites who are working on the case day and night. So far they have one name, unfortunatley that's my name. I'm sure its only a matter of time before they close in on the criminals though! So in the unlikely event that the Gardaí do not get any strong leads I'm just letting people know so that nobody buys it not knowing that its stolen. The boat is an orange Bliss-Stick Scud. Has my name on the inside (John Flanagan). The back security bar is slightly bent. Fairly unlikely that its going to turn up but just so y'all know.If anyone sees anything maybe they could let me know. My number is 086 3765488.Cheers

I'm curious, there's gotta be a good story behind this one, anyone care to share? :)

I'm guessing it's the fact that the main falls in high water turns very george'y.
It's very commiting, the usual last eddy to get out and inspect washes through. Meaning if you haven't got out earlier and hiked over the hill your running it blind ( and prob off the center line looking for an eddy that no longer there)
At high levels no mater how good your group is collectively your essentially on yer own for all the falls run and certain other sections as all the eddies wash out.
So if ya swim kiss your kit good bye you'll never hang on to it. Best you can do is get your arse down to bray harbour sharpish and hope it comes through.
It's well Known the Dargle is one of the most run grade 4's in the country but IMO anything under 5 blocks is hairy run. Anything under 4 blocks consider going elsewhere no matter how good you are.
I've done it once under 4 blocks. I survived and i'll not be doing it again at those levels. No fun just scary.
If it's that big you'll find other jems like the Inchavore and the Source running. Deadly crack both of them.
I'm sounding a bit high hoarse'y sorry and this is not ment to be a dig of any kind to the owners of the kit above ( whom i know to be good paddlers)
It's just word of warning to anyone who doesn't have much experience of the Dargle at anything other than the usual 6.5 - 5 block run.
ps. I'd love to hear what happend and what is was like at what level
Any video ?

At somes stage there may indeed be a story posted.
And i have to admit that i was the only one to really Duck it up and some of the rest of the lost gear was an atempt to save me after swimming from the entrance to the main fall to after the pop out hole. Needles to say i arrived there a lot quicker then the rest of the lads.
F**k thats a long n horrible swim you still in one piece ?
I'd say the kit was the least of your worries

48 hours waiting to get into a ward from A&E without working kidneys is starting to take it's toll.

What ! Jeebus man get well soon buddy.
I'm guessing forced drinking of the "booty juice" didn't cause the kidney failure.
When you've had the chance to grow some russian grade facial hair in hospital and you're feeling better fill us in.
Wishing you a speedy recovery

Regarding the Black Magics...
One of the guys who paddled the river with us took them with him, with a view to posting up here in the next day or so. I think his name was Conor. John Nally might remember his name...
Anyway, keep an eye out here for his post
Kieran
Yup Kylie (Connor) has them!
Turns out they're not belonging to this group

Also a set of Black Magic
Cheers
