Breakdown cover pretty much only covers towing charges anyway.

You still have to pay for repairs

Had a clutch go in france a few years back and took it to a main dealers, got a proper job done and still only cost not much more than the cover would have cost

The Rac year round Europe deal is worth a look.(car hire, recovery home, hotel) A tow off a motorway will cost big money. Though some travel insurance will give basic cover, ie recovery to a garage, and is very good value (insure.ie) Recovered me from darkest Wales last year.

Get the aa 5 star cover its your only man. We broke down in france and the van died they gave us a hotel room to stay in and a rental car for 6 weeks then they paid for our flights home i know its expensive but its worth it. ill be on the road for 1 or 2 months in europe and ill have it.
