Hey guys was wondering if any of you can recommend a car hire company for hitting the alps.

You know the score, can provide roofracks, don't rip the piss with having under 25's driving etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy

I think they all add a young driver's surcharge so you could be stuck there. I think europcar can provide roof racks.

 Well Aj,

where are you flying into? All the car companies add an under 25surcharge if your obviously not over 25, this might not apppear on some of the hire company websites but when you arrive to colect the car they check your licence and add it on. The surcharge for under 25 drivers is cheaper in italy than in france, so flying into bergamo(milan) or turin with ryanair will get you there its about 5 hours drive from there into the main paddling regions of the alps.

I can both reccomend europcar and knock em, last year we return one car with the fuel gauge slightly just off the completely full bar and they charged us an unbelievable amount to fil the rest! but we did knock a wing mirror off the other car adn glued it back on and got away with it!! so it all balanced out in the end.  As regards roof racks, europcar have the option on their website but i cant ever get it to actually add the option! but you couple rent a peugeot 307or something similar with roof rails and bring your own bars in your creek boat.

Or if you could squeze the kayaks in the car until you reach argentiere there is a saw mill there where youll get two decent pieces of lumber for peanuts and two sets of jublliee clips and some rubber or cloth to stop bars getting scratched andyour sorted!

I just booked a car in Marseille Airport with Europcar and I've used them before in Portugal a few years ago.  They're the only company I can find bar Rent-a-Wreck that have an age limit of 21 not 25. Instead they are slightly more expensive than the likes of Hertz or Avis but not when you add on the Young Driver Surcharge.

Not sure about the roofracks but if your having trouble adding them on to the order you may be able to ask for them when your picking up the car.
