Hey there, never paddled a SCUD but by ll accounts a savage little boat, if your Nomad is an 8.5 and your looking to let if go give me a shout.

I paddle one. They're the business for Ireland's rivers. You'll get a Demo no prob's from I-Canoe.

Its a different style of paddling than you'd be doing in the Nomad (a little more proactive).

They are super maneuverable and incredible to boof. Not as slow as you'd think on ferry's either.

The are merits in both boats though. When it gets very high and pushy the Nomad comes into it's own.

I found that more often than not it isn't high and pushy so working on percentages I would have more fun more of the time in a SCUD.

At 95 kgs you are at the upper weight range for a SCUD so definitely try before you buy

Thanks Bren - ye the weight thing is an issue. I wouldn't mind but I thought after those slim pills I bought in Tony whats his face... He told me that after a few weeks I'd be goin creekin in a feckin project 52! And four years later - no results..... It hurts gettin into a nomad...

Maybe I need to start in Slane and paddle up to Stack for a few weeks...

Listen buddy at 95kg's I aint calling anybody names. Weather ye roll on one side or sweep stroke to the other the only thing I'd be calling you is Sir.

It was just an observation........ really Innocent

This is just a thought but what about getting rid of that I3 thingy instead and getting a decent playboat like a big RAD or a Project 60

This would give you the best of both worlds. You could leave the Nomad for wicklow and use the playboat on the Boyne etc.

A decent playboat will make it easier to up the skill and you'll have better crack too.

I had one of those I3 yokes a few years ago and hated it. Jack of all trades and master of none.

Shit playboat. Shit river runner. Good allrounder.

A decent playboat and you'll get the best of both worlds.

Tried the big project about 2 years ago and felt it was too big - Very nice on a wave but on the flat it was not so easy to throw about - Other playboats I tried were marginally too small - Big G-Force / she was lying low on the water!!!!

A sat in a RAD 195 and didn't feel right.......

But good point  - Any other suggestions - Wud the S8 b any different than an I3......

You could try out a Pyranna 420 M/L. Maybe a Riot Astro 58.

I hear ya on the Project 62. Its like they skiped a size S.45 M.52 then XL.62 a 56 would have been great but for some reason they knocked it on the head.

For the flat its more about volume than design but when you get on a wave or even into a hole volume drops a little in importance and the importance of good design increases.

I'd still lean to the project myself. I can bow stall it at a push and I'm 85kg's so with a bit of practice the flat water stuff should get easier. The big plus though is its lenght and forgiving hull. You'll have good crack in a spot like Stackallen whereas in something longer like the s8 you'll be nudging the bottm on cartwheels etc.

Moves like the loop will also come easier with a shorter boat.

The two boats mentioned above are 58 gal's and should be on the money volume wise for you. Both are decent playboats but I'm personally not a fan of either for little but valid reasons.

I don't know enough about the newer Pyranna Rev m/l to recomend it or the Fluid Nemises but they both look usefull and worth a look.
