meelick

Does anyone have any information on Meelick weir (on the shannon-co. galway)? I live near it but i'm just wondering what sort of level works best? What side of the wier is best? Is the hole any good? (the one half way across the river walkway). Are there any other issues? Is it very shallow, etc, etc....

thanks,

John

well john

i was only there once before, but there was plenty to do eeven though the water was kind of low. The hole at the middle of the walk way was quiet shallow, as was the rest of the wier, but you could still surf it and maybe do a spin before washing off. Two of the gates were open that day too, the one on far river left and second one out from the wall. both were quiet shallow, but again surfable. Ive heard great things about meelick in higher water especially the waves at the gates are supposed to be good. You can see a few photos of our day there at the address below, not very helpfull sorry but bring a few buddies with ya and check it out

cheers for the info mike. there is a guage about 30 metres below the wier at the end of the wall. it'd be great if anyone who went there took a quick peek to see what level it's on, and post up here if it was suitable. later!

well john was reading you where looking for info on meelick. i have been there a lot nearly every second wkend its great spot but all depends on what gates are open. but there is nearly always some surf there anyway or you can play under the bridge on the walkway but if water is low watch out as a wall runs under it
