Anyone else from here heading over then? Just booked my ticket yesterday! Wanted to get there before that dam swallows up all the rapids.

total gunga and the ugly siters is all gone. Theres a lot of blasting going on at the moment and ive heard that by august silverback up will be gone. I dunno how reliable this is but there definately seems to be a lot happening at the dam site

Hey there,

The top section on the nile is being phased out over the next few months. at the moment there is agreements with the dam company to allow paddlers to use the top section This is a short time agreement, by sept the entire top section will be closed to paddlers due to dangers from blasting. If you can get there now as this sweet section of river will be gone forever within 6 months.

According to KTN, access will be severely restricted to kayaks / rafts etc from mid/late July, or maybe it was August... eitherway, September is probably too late to go!

Its worth going even if you don't get to do the Day 1 section. I personally preferred the day 2 section. Hairy lemon island is a beautiful place and one of the best waves in the world Nile special is just a short paddle from it.

Its a big pity ugly sisters is gone as it truly was a world class wave but it did have that nasty pour over behind it that was hard to forget about, no such worries on Nile special.

I'll not miss G-Spot anyway having been directed into it by a smiling Karl Dolan on my first run down the day 1 I came away feeling raped and violated. I managed to surf out of it but still ended up rocking and sucking my thumb till I got some beer in me to deaden the memory Laughing

NRE is a good spot for killing a few brain cells and making all the down time of the day melt into a distant memoryWink
