Ive just noticed the picture of Mark Coleman on the front page, and was wondering is there many C1 paddlers in Ireland?

I converted a prozone to C1 a few months back, but as I dont know anyone else that uses a C1 playboat, ive noone to really work off.

It would be great if anyone that uses one could get in touch, and give me a wee bit of advice about how to start throwing it around properly.

Thanks

Niall Quinn

Niall

I've a Perception Mr Clean C1 converson for last 6 odd years, every so often I take a notion a blast in it, I have a factory made kit at first but then after a combination of reading about it / checking out Marks rig and experience I did a custom fit out made of foam and straps.

What kind of info you looking for? As far as I know Team Riot? Peak Uk paddle Ollie Castle is based in Dublin this weather and does use this board on ocassion so him of Mark would be the right guys to help you out.

I will try answer any questions I can.

I just made a rough conversion one day for the laugh, its pretty messy but does the job. When i tried it out i found i actually really enjoyed it.

The problem is, i can cartwheel it (badly). But without any instruction on technique im not really sure how to paddle it properly. Just a bit of advice on technique or maybe someone willing to take me out at some stage and try to improve my dodgy technique. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as id quite like to take this up.

Im based in belfast which might make things awkward though.

Thanks

I might not be the best for instruction, but if you make it anywhere near dublin I'll show you what I can. it does depend on what level you are coming from.

I came from white water / freestyle kayaking and have done loads and loads of OC1 (canoes on grade 3/4) and kinda figured it out that way.

Tin,

Check this link out, takes a bit to load but what Marc Girardin can't do in his C1 is not wort talking about.... and with one less blade it looks just a little cooler even more so when he gets huge air!

Fair point but the video is from 2001 and the feature is limited enough. Its only in recent years that huge air and wave moves are being done on a regular basis.

Anyone else up for this then? Ill definitely bring mine down, maybe even have a wee paddle on the gower after the competition is over. But a C1 rodeo at the varsities would be class!

Yo Mission,

I reckon it's far too late in the game to be asking the guys orginising the varsities to put an extra class into the freestyle event.

Also Gower is not the easiest spot to catch in a C1. I reckon it would be far wasier and more fun to have a "session day" in some where like Sluice or Clifden (when condtions are right). It would be a day where all the closet C1 fans all come blast together and anyone who wants to give it a shot and come alone.

If there was a few heads interested in this I would be happy to try get some thing together.

Well obviously an official one is pretty out of the question, but even just a wee mess around with a few of us.

But yea if a few other people would like to get toghether and mess around a bit would be class.  Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to stick the boat on a bus and head down to dublin for the day.

Hey,

Very cool to see some discussion about C1 paddling, all but lost my mojo for C1 boating over here and taken up mountain biking. If there are people around who want to go round and round in holes or throw them selves down rivers please shout as it get depressing paddling with the two bladed kind all the time. Might actually get me off my bike and back on the rivers.

I knew Mark had gone for the team who is the other legend?

Count me in for a C1 day on the river.

Cheers

Ollie Castle
