Tree clearing on the Gaddagh, Sat 1st
Hi folks,
The tree clearing mission has had to be postponed for the moment,
Daithí

Tree clearing on the Gaddagh is back on for the weekend of 1st of March. If we don't get it finished on the Saturday, we will be back again on the Sunday (weather permitting) A gang of us will be staying at the Climber's Inn in Glencar (066-9760101) on Sat night and consuming many pints. B&B is E30pp for a twin/double room or E25pp in bunks.
Lidl folding saws are optional but chainsaws should make them redundant. Waders or dry pants, lumberjack shirts and warm clothes would be nice. Work gloves will be essential. Any help gratefully appreciated.
Did this go ahead in the end? I didn't hear anything in the run up to yesterday.
Peter
We took out a lot of the dangerous ones in the km below Cronins.
I think that anyone considering doing the Gaddagh in high water should either do the river ahead of time in low/medium water to get to know the route/hazards or else spend at least an hour doing a good recce of the mid section on the way up.
3 paddles were found. We know the owner of one. The second is a tempest with disco paddler stickers on the backs of the blades. The third is a newish set of Kinetics. If you think that you are the owner, contact Catherine Halpin,

UCDCC were down with the accident investigators over the weekend. Good work by the Cork crew in removing the dangerous trees.
Due to the nature of this river and its banks the erosion which caused those trees to fall in in the first place is going to continue, and more trees will fall in to replace those removed.
Daithí's advice is sound.
Cormac.
