Further Info on the Team Trials for European Championships 2008
For all those competing in Trials just to clarify how things will go.
As previously stated the rules for trials will be european freestyle rules. These rules are variety only and are available for viewing in the resources section of this website here.
Sluice: As we are under less time constraints we will be running heats and super finals at this event.
Sluice is an obtainable feature so each competitor gets two runs results are added together.
Top five go through to Super finals. see note in european rules as to how super finals work.
Clifden: Clifden is obtainable so like sluice it will be two runs added together.
Curragower: As this location is an unobtainable feature according to european rules each competitor will get 4 runs and best two runs will be added together.(note this means once you flush you may not re enter wave from the eddy)
In an ideal world the committee would have opted for superfinals at Curragower and Clifden.
However with time constraints and tides to work against we also wanted to run events off in one day where possible and as such its unlikely that there will be time. (only chance of this working is low turn out at trials).
Ok now it gets complicated!
Below is how we will be ranking people. Remember best two results will count.
After each event a competitor gets a point based on where they came in each competition in relation to how many people are registered.
For example if 8 people are registered in the ladies class this is scored out of 8.
1st place:8 points
2nd place:7 points
3rd place:6 points
4th place; 5 points
5th place; 4 points
6th place; 3 points
7th place; 2 points
8th place: 1 point.
If someone doesnt show up for an event they dont get any points.
The example below should explain it better
So Jane Doe entered ladies class and came 3rd in Clifden, 1st in curragower and couldnt make sluice as she was out of the country. 8 girls registered for ladies. so jane gets 8 points for curragower 6 points for clifden and no points for sluice as she didnt compete. So she gets 14 points.
janes sister Karen competed in all 3 events and came fifth in two events and 7 at clifden. so she gets 4 points for gower 4 for sluice and 2 for clifden. Clifden score is discarded and she has 8 points in total .
one girl got 16 points and was first to qualify with a win at sluice and a win at clifden. Jane also qualified but her sister didnt....poor Karen didnt get enough points.
Jane went to Galicia anyway and didnt even feel sorry for Karen!
Ok end of rant.
Best of luck to all competitors!
