The crazy thing is that due to a category change ratified at a surf committee meeting, when he goes back to the next worlds in Portugal in 2009 he will be competing as a junior (21 years old) and therefore will not be able to defend his title. The new categorys are cadet (up to 16 year olds), juniors (17 - 21 years old), senior (22 -39), masters (40 - 50), grand masters (51+).
