Glenmacnass channel cleared.

Steve F - Sun, 2010-03-21 22:47

The left hand channel above the bridge in laragh is cleared to run now, and some work has been done to make river right a bit safer.

although some of the trees river right were either to big to move or cut.

River left is a preferred option now unless you like trees, most lumber cut moved to above the high water mark so shouldnt cause any trouble.

Hi

Due to coilltes' clearfelling programme the Kings tributary , the Annalecka brook has logs and branches in it just below the bridge and dotted along its length.

These might be hidden in high water and could cause problems.

Castleconnel footbridge - trees

Peter - Sun, 2009-12-06 16:16

There are trees against some of the columns of the footbridge at Castleconnel. They are easy to paddle around if you're expecting them, best idea would be to walk down from the carpark at the start to look at them.

The river is still in the carpark but its a metre lower than its peak.

Also, the footbridge is closed at the moment.

The Newport river is full of trees at the moment. 3 essential portages. First at the bridge at the get in. 2 further on, the 3rd has no eddies with 10meters of it. There are many other trees to be paddled around as the water flows under them.

Just in case anyone is in the area and looking for something different, the river Behy near Glenbeigh has a river wide strainer in the first half of the run. Easily portaged if looking for it but eddies are on the small side.
